Impakt Foundation’s Centre for Belonging and Community
A Call to Action
We have spent 5 years listening to newcomers and learning about the organizations that exist to help them in Canada. Here’s what we learned:
The settlement services are not connected to each other.
Thousands of newcomers are underserved or not supported at all.
In early 2023, over 42,000 skilled newcomers left Canada because there was inadequate resettlement support.
We believe this is unacceptable and are taking action to help newcomers have an opportunity to succeed in Canada.
Our Philosophy
"For newcomers, by newcomers," is based on the belief that newcomers best identify their needs and goals. Our role is to listen, navigate the system with them, and recognize them as active participants in shaping their futures and communities. Through listening, collaboration, and trust-building, we aim to transform the newcomer experience in Canada.
At the Centre, newcomer professionals will help guests by:
Conducting a thorough needs assessment for each person and a qualitative evaluation of services at the end of each program.
Creating a truly community-driven environment.
Based on the needs assessment, we curate the right mix of support to help newcomers before, during, and after they access services.
