Employment Pathways for Newcomers

Corporate Partnerships

Recognizing that employment is key to independence, we partner with organizations such as IKEA, Canada Goose, and Walmart to provide refugees employment opportunities. In addition to employment we work with these corporation as well as Service Canada to offer workshops on essential services such as Employment Insurance, pensions, apprenticeship grants, and job bank registration.

Common Thread

The Common Thread Program serves to connect newcomers in the GTA with meaningful employment in the apparel industry. After connecting our refugee participants to TCCLD’s Regent Park Sewing School, they are given the opportunity to work at DESIGNwith, an innovative and sustainable apparel/design lab in the heart of Toronto.

Once employed, participants get to contribute to our Social Enterprise, a sustainable shirt initiative which incorporates the cultural heritage of each tailor!

Cultural Ambassdors

The program offers a dual benefit by providing ambassadors with valuable Canadian work experience. enhancing their personal development but also significantly boosting their employability beyond the Foundation. The initiative empowers ambassadors through fair pay, skill development, mentorship, and active involvement in program creation.
